Antique German ‘800’ Silver Caddy with Scenes c1870
Silversmiths mark for Gebruder Dingeldein
This is an oval antique German caddy with figural decoration of women with fans and what looks like dancing scenes.
On the lid is a woman working in the garden while a man sits and watches her!
It measures 2 1/2” (6.5 cms) across x 2 “ (5 cms) deep and 3 1/2” (9 cms) tall and has a pull off lid.
It is clearly hallmarked with the 800 German silver mark and the crescent moon and crown with the maker’s mark GDH which is for the maker Gebruder Dingeldein who began work in Hanau Germany in 1865.
The firm exhibited at the Philadelphia International Exhibition in 1876 and were commended for their interesting collection of items.
It weighs 107.2 grams and is in great condition.
