Unusual antique Victorian sterling silver tankard by the famous silversmith Stephen Smith who worked in King Street Covent Garden in London.
It weighs 366 grams and is clearly hallmarked for London 1872 with Stephen Smith’s mark also clearly visible.
It’s 5 1/4” (13 cms) high and 3 1/2” (9 cms) across the top with engraved leaf decoration all round the body, the rim and the handle and it comfortably holds a pint.
It is in excellent condition with no damage and no repairs and it retains its original gilded interior.
Stephen Smith is renowned as an important silversmith who made stylish and elegant pieces and his works are highly sought after today.
