Antique Georgian Sterling Silver 7″ Trophy / Cup 1809
Hallmarked for London 1809 with the silversmiths mark for Solomon Hougham.
This is a super antique Georgian sterling silver trophy/goblet measuring 7″ (18 cms) tall x 4″ (10 cms) across the top.
It’s hallmarked for London 1809 with the silversmiths mark for Solomon Hougham.
It weighs 444 grams and has a weighted base. It’s in excellent condition with no damage (any marks you can see on the photos are just reflections) and retains the original gilding inside.
It’s engraved around the cup ‘As a mark of respect for his native town Eton to be run for August 13th 1813’ and the cartouche is inscribed ‘The Gift of Willm Bishop, Watling St, London’ .
Watling St was an ancient route which is now part of the A2 from Dover to London.
