Pair of Antique Sterling Silver Shell Butter Dishes in Case 1919
Hallmarked for Sheffield 1919 and 1918 with the silversmiths mark for George Howson.
This is a super pair of antique hallmarked sterling silver shell butter dishes with knives in their original presentation case. Each dish measures 4 3/4″ (12 cms) x 4 1/4″ (11 cms) and the knives are 4 3/4″ (12 cms) long.
All four items have the silversmiths mark for George Howson and the dishes and one knife are hallmarked for Sheffield 1919 with the other knife hallmarked for Sheffield 1918.
The bowls of the dishes are gilded and there are no inscriptions or monograms and all four items are in excellent condition – the silver alone weighs 138 grams.
The box is a little warped on one end but still closes and does the job perfectly well .
