This is a superb William lV sterling silver sauce tureen in an urn style hallmarked for London 1837 and with the maker’s mark for Edward, Edward Junior, John and William Barnard.

It weighs 690 grams (22 troy ounces) and is in beautiful original condition and has a large and rather exceptional baronial crest engraved on one side.

It measures 8” (20 cm) tall to the top of the finial which is in the shape of a flower, and it has applied moulded decoration around the edge of the lid and of the base.

There are 2 side handles and the inside has the original gilding.

The rim of the lid is indented to take a spoon and it would have been used as a sauce or gravy tureen.

It is a quite beautiful item of antique silver by a prominent maker and in exceptional condition.

The base, the lid and the final are all clearly hallmarked.
